It's been a busy and exciting two weeks. The week before Christmas, mommy and daddy were super busy - daddy trying to catch up on as much work as possible before we headed south and mommy making sure we were all packed up with all that we needed to head south. And, on Thursday, 12/22 - we began the long drive. We stopped by daddy's hospital on the way out of town so he could see some patients (I slept in the car the whole time), and then we drove and drove. We stopped every couple of hours so I could be fed, stretch my legs, and have my diaper changed. And, we made it as far as Nashville, TN that first day.
Then on Friday, we drove the rest of the way to the coast of Georgia. I also had the privilege of meeting mommy's former roommate, Kelly Sasser Bryant, as we drove through Macon, GA. I was super excited to see my Nana and Poppy that night before we settled in for the night.
On Saturday, I got to spend more time with my Nana and Poppy and then finally met my Aunt Celeste, Aunt Janet, and Cousin Andrew. We all went to a Christmas Eve service at mommy's former church (St. Simons Community Church) - and I was able to meet more of their friends. I really liked the candlelight and singing parts of the service - not to mention how fun it was to sit with my cousin and aunties.
Christmas morning, we went to Nana and Poppy's church (Jekyll Island United Methodist Church) where I finally got to meet my Uncle Calvin. I slept through some of the afternoon family festivities but I woke up to fun new toys and stuffed animals to play with. I don't think I will remember my first Christmas but mommy and daddy say that they will.
Mommy and I were planning to stay in GA for the week but plans changed and we ended up driving back with daddy on Monday. I wasn't too thrilled for the long drive back, but I handled it pretty well.
Since we've been back, mommy is working hard to get me back on my schedule. And, I am now eating rice cereal twice a day (breakfast and dinner) - and mommy says that I get to try some real stuff soon. :)
All in all, mommy says I taught her a lot these last two weeks. She and daddy were amazed at how flexible and adaptable I was to all the change (Sleeping in my play yard in a hotel. Eating in the backseat of the car. Taking a bath with mommy in a big tub. Changing up my normal routine each day. Taking a nap on a big bed. And loads of other things). Mommy is learning that she can be more flexible too - and she says that I am doing a great job of teaching her that it's ok if everything doesn't go according to a plan or schedule. (Those of you who know mommy well know that she is quite the Type A personality and loves her routine :)
Also, daddy says that I make him smile a lot more. And, he is learning to just enjoy the little things. He really likes it when he comes home from work and I get a big grin on my face when I see him. You should see the way it makes him smile. :D
